Road Closures in Harpenden

Am I the only person who thinks the road closures in Harpenden are getting beyond a joke.

We're into week 2 of 6 of the Lower Luton Rd closure. I till don't understand the diversion signs. I think the basic idea is that people are sent away from the closure never to return. The signs seem to send you in one direction but then promptly disappear. I Suppose the funniest sign is the Diversion End followed by a Diversion sign 10 m latter by the Bridge on Station Rd (seems somehow to emphasise the futility of following these signs). Then there is why was Wheathampstead painted out on some of the signs do they know something I don't. Seems to be a totally random placement of signs. Definitely not a sign of joined up thinking.

I'm sure there are a lot of motorists that have got lost in this area causing an unnecessary increase in trafficresulting in increased risk to pedestrians and road users, pollution and higher fuel bills.

The roadwork's don't really need both sides of the road (I noticed as I walked past on Thursday). So why weren't traffic light used? If they really do need to close the road then why not impose a temporary one way system around Batford? Why weren't works done at the same time as the recent gas work?

Then to add to the madness Station Rd is closed today as well so now any sense there might be in the diversion signs is completely lost as there are two sets of diversion signs running inot each other.

The loss of business to the two pubs and the Indian Takeaway are also another not insignificant economic impact on the area. I don't include Tecso Express and Esso in this as they are more than big enough to fend for themselves.

The ultimate irony is that they are supposed to be sorting out the flooding at Batford Corner which has got worse than ever.

So what is the total economic and environmental impact on the area and why aren't any of our local politicians sorting this out?

Must be a huge relief that the roads are now open to everyone who has been affected by the road closures and diversions. Now let's see if the flooding problem is fixed?!

The Lower Luton Rd is open this evening. Although all the signs are still there.

Guess it will be sorted tomorrow.

Although maybe there will be traffic lights as they still appear to be working at the end of South View Rd.

I have another post I'm going to do tonight that adds madness to the madness.

My partner drove along the Lower Luton Rd Batford to Wheathampstead and said he traffic was what you normally expect on a Monday at 8 o'clock.

So by now no-one is using the diversion. Can't imagine why anyone would myslef

What a crazy state of affairs! The diversion route that you speak of appears to be unjustified - be interested to hear what that's doing to people's fuel bills? As an aside, I've recently completed a public sector tender and had to go to great lengths to qualify our environmental policy for a job where it's barely applicable. Then I hear that Herts Highways are encouraging thousands of motorists to multiply their normal route by 5...mmmmnn...it doesn't quite add up, does it?!
