I was more than impressed with our food at Charlie's in Kinsbourne Green. The service was good; the menu varied and the food very good. Our mixed hor deuvres were wonderful- they were fresh and not oily like so many other Chinese restaurants (even the prawn toast!!!) The duck was also very good, although there was far too much for two! By the time we got to the mains (beef and chicken) we were already full and again the portions were massive- but we still managed to try it (!) and the taste was lovely; the sauces were rich and the chinese spinach divine! On the downside the restaurant was empty (it was a Thursday) and the menu is a little pricey (£25 for the cheapest set menu); if they reduced the portion sizes they could then reduce the prices, perhaps this would help attract customers. I would definitely recommend this chinese restaurant; in my opinion it is the best in Harpenden.

Good food but expensive
I will be honest Chinese is not my no. 1 choice for a meal out. Last week though I visited Charlies with a group of friends. The food was excellent as was the service. What got me was the bill at the end. They do a fixed price menu that looks excellent value but has a cut off point that makes it irrlevant to commuters and those who have to work longish hours. Once you go "a la carte" the costs add up and the mark up on the wine is can only be descibed as greedy! I wolud go there again for a special occasion but not otherwise.

Great, Great Food and venue
What a refreshing offer!!! quite possibly the best peking duck I have ever tasted!
The restaurant uses fresh premium produce and you can really taste the difference, the chicken tastes like real chicken and is meaty in texture, not like some of the other restaurants that i have tried.
They have just started thier sunday buffet which is very resonably priced at just £12!!!! all you can eat with a fantastic selection and loads of space for kids plus a giant connect 4 game to keep them entertianed!!
I've eaten here twice now once for the a la carte and once for the buffet and will definately going back!!
