I was told last night that the Three Horseshoes had ceased trading again. Like last year it followed the cold snap; maybe a coincidence then maybe not. A friend predicted this when it re-opened as he felt the business model had not been changed. Being more a restaurant than a pub one would only go there for a pint on a summer’s evening or Sunday afternoon when you could sit in the garden. The food, like under the previous management, was good but overpriced for what it was. Hopefully it will re-open soon but with some fresh ideas.

The Three Horseshoes is Harpenden is well worth a visit! We booked a table for fathers' day and were pleasantly surprised. The situation is perfect and the garden is safe and well equipped for children (with a playhouse and little tike cars0; hen we arrived we discovered they had a magician and face painter, much to our daughter's delight.)
The restaurant was a little cramped, but the food more than made up for it...we had a large party and everyone was pleased with their meal. The children's menu was varied and different to normal...if you have a fussy eater this may not suit (the pasta was lovely, but quite a sophisticated sauce with herbs!)
We will definitely be going back for dinner and for a drink in the garden on a beautiful summer's day!
The Three Horseshoes is an idyllic English Country Pub, situated on the Common. It is the perfect summer destination as it has a pretty beer garden, where you can enjoy good food, including a weekly bbq throughout the summer. In the evening, the food is pretty special and is more restaurant than pub grub.
