An organisation dedicated to helping young volunteers has received a £3,000 grant thanks to six county councillors including Harpenden's Bernard Lloyd.
Cllr Bernard Lloyd, Harpenden North East
Councillors Bernard Lloyd (Harpenden North East), Chris White (St Albans Central), Rob Prowse (St Albans City and District), Martin Frearson (St Albans South), Aislinn Lee (St Stephen's) and Geoff Churchard (Sandridge) each allocated £500 from their locality budgets to the St Albans and District Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), to help them fund a youth volunteering project.
The project will support 14-19 year olds in overcoming the barriers they face in accessing volunteering roles. The money will help to cover the costs of training two CVS advisers; the printing and distribution of promotional materials; updates to the CVS website and more.
In addition, it will enable the service to hold advice sessions for local organisations, to encourage them to support youth volunteering, and three 'volunteer speed matching' events.
Locality budgets were launched in July 2009, with funding to be used for worthy social, economic or environmental causes in Hertfordshire.
A total of £10,000 is available to each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council to spend on worthwhile community projects in their area.
