A busy route for Harpenden road users is to be resurfaced. Work on the Harpenden Road (A1081), the main road in to St Albans is due to start at 8pm on Wednesday 8 September.

Whilst the works to repair, resurface and repaint the carriageway take place over three consecutive nights, weather permitting, a diversion route will be in place between 8pm and 6am.

The timing of these works may not sit well with the hordes of road using commuters, who will have enjoyed quieter roads over the holiday period. Just as they have to contend with heavier traffic once again, there is the added implication of the proposed works.

Stuart Pile, Executive Member for Highways and Transport said: "By carrying these works out at night we hope to minimise disruption to road users. Drivers are advised to allow a bit of extra time for journeys while these essential maintenance works are carried out."

Bus services will be also be affected by these road closures. If you are travelling towards St Albans, you are advised to check out service disruption information on www.intalink.org.uk

Do you travel to or through St Albans in the early morning or at night? What do you think of the council’s timing on this? Let us know how you get on and share your road rage with fellow local drivers here on Harpenden People.
