An adventurer, author and orator who has been described as a modern day Lawrence of Arabia is to speak at a dinner in Harpenden this Friday, 26 March.

Rory Stewart MP OBE is famous for walking across Afghanistan staying with local villagers in the wake of the coalition invasion and his subsequent period acting as governor of an Iraqi province. He has also been hailed as the best new parliamentary orator, following his election as an MP last year.

Hitchin and Harpenden MP Peter Lilley is responsible for his invite to the event and said of Rory: “I am pleased to have the opportunity to welcome Rory who brings to Parliament an amazing breadth of experience and talent.  He will certainly be a fascinating key-note speaker at our Annual Dinner at the Mid Herts Golf Club on Friday.”

Rory Stewart has served in the British Army, the British Foreign Service as a diplomat, founded the Turquoise Mountain Foundation to preserve Afghan cultural treasures and is author of “The Places in Between” and “The Prince of the Marshes”.

Will you be at the dinner? Let us know what you think of Rory’s talk? And don’t forget you can post photos of the event by going to ‘pictures’ on the home page of harpendenpeople.
