Don't moan when all the local shops disappear

So, here we are again. The local bookshop on the parade has closed, and hardly anyone I know has mentioned it. OK I wasn't in there every week but it was somewhere to get a card or a advent calendar, to browse local area books, to get a child's hardback. And then today, another independent store, Village Cards, next to the Slug & Lettuce, announced it too was closing down. It was full of bargain hunters making the most of the 50% off everything. Both closures are due to rent increases. If we don't start supporting our local shops then don't moan when all you can find on our high street are estate agents, fried chicken takeaways & charity shops. We all have to take responsibility.

I totally agree with the comments above, we must ALL start supporting our local shops that we are lucky enough to have. A lot of the shops are displaying the posters for the Council's Loyalty Card which I think is a fantastic idea, if only more shops joined in!
There is also the Council's "Keep it Local" Campaign promoting all the Shops, Bussinesses and Trades in the area, which again I think is fantastic!
Have you been on the website of " Harpenden Directory.co.uk " From what I can gather this site helps the Town Council get it's message out and is a Directory, freely listing all the Shops, Businesses and Trades in the area. This site is so user friendly, I am a definate fan and it makes it so easy for me to do my bit as a resident of Harpenden to support my shops.
Keep it local, use the harpenden website and SUPPORT YOUR LOCALS!!

ReportThat is unfortunately 2 in the space of less than two weeks! If you don't want Harpenden to turn in to an irreversible Dunstable (If Mary Queen of Shops can't do it then who can). Get up and take a walk into town leaving the car at home, that way you have no excuse that the parking attendant is going to jump out from behind a lamp post at any time and ticket you. Enjoy the lovely town that we have and support your local indepent shops and businesses whilst you can before we all end up having to jump into our cars just to grab a pint of milk from the nearest out of town industrial park.
