Parents, pupils and staff at Sauncey Wood Primary School have spoken out in defence of their school, following negative comments about its popularity and performance.
The shortfall of primary school places in Harpenden has led to a number of families not being awarded one of their three schools of choice. Some of these have been awarded places at Sauncey Wood, a small primary school in the Batford area of Harpenden. Further, one of the families in this position has had a controversial letter published in The Herts Advertiser (20 May), and although they refrained from directly naming Sauncey Wood, there was little doubt that the school’s reputation was being called in to question.
Consequently three letters have been published in this week’s Herts Advertiser (27 May), praising the school and defending it’s staff, results and reputation; one from a parent who claims her three children enjoyed good schooling there, one which appears to be from a member of the school’s staff and one from a former pupil of the school.
With dissatisfied parents awaiting results of the second run of continuing interest in the week commencing 14 June emotions are set to continue to run high. We’d like to hear from you if you have been awarded a school place at Sauncey Wood and are continuing interest at other Harpenden schools. Or, if you are a parent of a pupil at Sauncey Wood and believe the school doesn’t deserve the flack it’s received, put the record straight here.
