Lea Primary allocations- read on if you have been given a place for 2011

Is your child is due to start Reception in Harpenden this September?
Are you one of the 64 families who have been allocated The Lea Primary even though it was not one of your 3 Ranked Schools?
A group of parents who are in a similar situation to you have decided to
hold a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday 12th April) at 8pm The Royal British
Legion (Leyton Road, Harpenden). They would like as many of the parents who received the Lea instead of one of their three ranked schools to attend as possible.
There has been a lot of talk around town over the past week about school allocations. You cannot walk down the High Street without hearing someone discussing the current school places 'nightmare' which lots of Harpenden parents are currently encountering.
Most of the disappointments lay with the families (64 in total) who have been allocated The Lea Primary School. For many of them it is not their nearest school - but with a high rate of siblings 'catchments' for local schools have been smaller than ever.
I feel really sorry for the Headteacher of The Lea and the staff who are working very hard to ensure that the children at the school receive a quality learning experience. It must be very disheartening to hear that nearly all of the families who have been allocated a place in your school do not want to become a part of the school community. Surely if the 64 families who had been allocated places sent their children there it would help to raise standards and could prove a real turning point for the school (easy for me to say, as my child was allocated a place which we were happy with!) But being a guinea pig and gambling with your child's education is a risk which many parents, understandably, don't want to take.
This really is a horrible situation for all involved!

A comment from Sajona on Twitter-
I am vice chair of the PTA there the ofstead for The Lea was very unfair and untrue - we were really upset - do not use as the only ref for The Lea.
The Lea is a friendly, close knit school - it is small and everyone
knows everyone, the teachers and headteacher are ace.
Don't go by the rumours and b******* by parents who've never been
there - visit and check it out for yourself.
