It’s been announced earlier today that Sir Elton John is to headline a day-long music event at Hatfield House this summer. The event ‘Magic Summer Live’ is being launched by London radio station, Magic105.4, in association with BT, and will be held in the grounds of the historic house on Sunday 17th July 2011.

As well as the multiple Grammy and Brit Award winner, confirmed acts include pop-soul act Rumer and American duo, The Pierces. And in the run-up to the event, more acts will be added to the bill.

Tickets for the event are on sale now, with the cost of a standard entry ticket costing £60 plus booking fee and postage, and VIP tickets, with fast-track entry and grand stand seating on sale at £95 plus booking fee and postage.

The doors to the event will open at 12 noon, with the first act on stage at 2pm, and the event will finish at 10.30pm. There is no age restriction on the event, although under 16’s must be accompanied by and adult, and under 5’s will not be admitted in to the VIP area. However, under 5’s go free so this does appear to be an event that the whole family can enjoy.

Sir Elton John is no stranger to Hertfordshire. His support of Watford Football Club, led him to become Director and Chairman of the club in 1976, and although he relinquished the job to a full-time Chairman he remains the club's life-long president with a significant financial interest in the club.

What a fiasco. Yes the weather didn't help, but the two £105.00 "VIP" tickets I bought, expecting to have a better view than the general tickets were a joke. Two rows of seats set adjacent to the stage at right angles and what must have been 200ft away, meant you had to sit twisting your neck watching a video screen; the position of the stage to the seats meant the sound was pathetic. The difference between a clock radio and mid-range stereo... The sound was actually better in the general enclosure. How I feel for the people who paid a huge premium for these tickets on ebay... wasting £210 is bad enough but some had paid double that! The queues to all food sellers were horrendous... the toilets were the same. We arrived half way through the Lighthouse Family; and left after the 3rd Elton John song... What absolute rubbish. People were complaining on site and being "upgraded" to "gold section" as a gesture of goodwill. The only way we would have stayed would have been if they had moved the stands and up rated the PA system!... Never again; I'd be surprised if Magic FM even hold a 2nd event after this load of rubbish, certainly anyone who attended this would be unlikely to give it a second chance.
