On Saturday 14th September 2013, St Hilda’s School, 28 Douglas Road, Harpenden, will be celebrating the opening of its exciting new building. Over 300 visitors will be in attendance and the morning promises to be very special. The Headteacher, Carolyn Godlee will be introducing proceedings at 10.30am, followed by speeches from The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Annie Brewster, and the Guest of Honour, Mr Lance Thomas. Mr Thomas will then cut the tape and tours of the new facilities will begin! These include six large new classrooms, an enlarged kitchen and dining room, a separate art room and science lab, extra rooms for IT and group work, and a raft of improvements to the original building. The new Early Years Unit comprises the ground floor of the new building, complete with its own kitchen and outdoor play area.
There will be strawberries and fizz in the marquee on the school field, with everything decorated in St Hilda’s School colours – red and white – and at 11.30am the Year 6 pupils will release their red and white balloons into the sky, complete with messages outlining their hopes and dreams for the school.
Following the highly successful inspection report, earlier this year, in which St Hilda’s was judged to be ‘Excellent in All Areas’, 2013 has been a terrific year for the school.
It’s sometimes said that St Hilda’s is ‘Harpenden’s best-kept secret!’
