Friends of the Nickey Line are carrying out a usage survey from Saturday 6th – Sunday 14th July to obtain up to date figures which they will use to support work and funding requests to councils and other organisations. Anybody using the Nickey Line anywhere between Harpenden and Redbourn Lane can help by counting other users on the Line at the time. They are asked to contact Friends of the Nickey Line for details.
Friends of the Nickey Line are carrying out a usage survey from Saturday 6th – Sunday 14th July to obtain up to date figures which they will use to support work and funding requests to councils and other organisations. These figures are very important and the last data is from several years ago. They believe usage is now much higher, especially by cyclists and runners.
Use of the Line varies by time of day, day of the week (especially the weekends), the weather and of course the time of the year. So they need a lot of counting to get a reliable picture.
Friends of the Nickey Line Chairman Dave Abernethy said, "We are seeing large numbers of people using the Nickey Line for recreation or to travel to local shops and schools. Up to date usage figures will help us obtain funding and support from councils and other organisations to help maintain the Line as an important local amenity"
Friends of the Nickey Line are appealing for help from people expecting to use the Nickey Line:
• anywhere from Harpenden, Hollybush Lane to Redbourn Lane, and
• anytime between Saturday 6th July to Sunday 14th July
or from anyone who can spend half an hour to an hour on the Nickey Line any time then.
Participants simply keep a count of the people they see using the Line – dog walkers, other walkers, runners, cyclists, disabled people and report the total numbers plus when they were on the Line.
Any one interested in helping should ask for details from email@example.com or Chairman Dave Abernethy on 07788 198283.
