White Horse, Hatching Green, Harpenden

Great food and service- We really enjoyed a meal at the White Horse yesterday – especially as we took advantage of the New Year offer of 2 courses for £13.50 that they were handing out flyers for at the train station. All dishes were extremely tasty and the service that went with it was excellent too – will be going back.

Winepress, Harpenden House Hotel, Harpenden

Lovely meal thanks to Harpenden People- We had a lovely dinner down at the Wine Press restaurant! Didn't know too much about it until I found them on this site, so thanks Harpenden people! We certainly enjoyed the taste of their great food, great service from start to finish! Would highly recommend coming down here, we will certainly be back again!

Golden Elephant, Wheathampstead

Golden Elephant in Wheathampstead is a lovely Thai- Wheathampstead's Golden Elephant is a great Thai restaurant which is set back on Wheathampstead High Street. You enter the restaurant via a little courtyard area; once inside mind your head as the building is full of beams (and character!) The service was very good with attentive staff; and for a Tuesday the restaurant was busy. Our starter of the squid was stunning- fresh squid, cooked to perfection in a light batter and served steaming hot. And the mains didn't disappoint either- the curry was flavoursome, the noodles and rice well cooked and the Tofu (which is notoriously difficult to cook) was full of flavour and texture. So, if you like Thai food give this little Wheathampstead restaurant a try!

Charlie's Restaurant and Bar, Kinsbourne Green, Harpenden

Good food but expensive- I will be honest Chinese is not my no. 1 choice for a meal out. Last week though I visited Charlie's with a group of friends. The food was excellent as was the service. What got me was the bill at the end. They do a fixed price menu that looks excellent value but has a cut off point that makes it irrelevant to commuters and those who have to work longish hours. Once you go "a la carte" the costs add up and the mark up on the wine is can only be described as greedy! I would go there again for a special occasion but not otherwise.

That Little Place, Harpenden

Great Little Place- Husband and I went last weekend. The Pate Platter was excellent (and so fresh), our bangers and mash & Goat cheese strudel there both the best we ever had. I really like the local produce concept, something we didn't know about before going but were pleasantly surprised to see on the menu. Being vegetarian I really liked that there were a couple main options for me which weren't risotto. That Little Place has become our new favourite.

L'Olivo, Wheathampstead

Really liked this one! -  It's great food and atmosphere with reasonable prices on food and wine. A great place for group bookings and the chef has no problem if you need to change any dish on the menu to meet your tastes. A fun night out!

Pasta Cibo, Harpenden 

Fantastic Little Italian- I have eaten here many times over the years. The service and food are always excellent. In addition to being child friendly they are also elderly friendly. When we took my partner's aunt who has quite severe mobility problems they were extremely helpful moving a few tables to ease access and checking that everything was OK for her. I thought it was worth bringing their lunchtime special to readers' attention. They offer a number of main courses at £4.95 at lunchtime. I enjoyed a plate of pasta and a glass of their excellent house red the other lunchtime. You feel as if you have had a real break from modern hectic life that unfortunately seems continuous in some other establishments.

Cook, Harpenden

Harpenden's Cook- great frozen food! - If you are looking for some excellent quality frozen food- which you could easily pass off as home cooked in your own kitchen, look no further than Cook! The food is fabulous and there is something to suit every palate! We love the Indian range (much cheaper than a take away and just as good...and healthier!) and for that special night in try the beef wellington.
