Village Cafe, Station Road

When they were refurbishing the former home to "The Pantry", "Jayne's" and a host of other restaurants, to become the "Village Café" I saw they were advertising both lunch and dinner. Yesterday I was told they were open and thought I would try them rather than picking up "fish and chips" when I got off the train. Sadly they were closed, as their opening hours seem much the same as the other cafes/coffee shops in the area. Has anybody tried them as yet and what did you think. I might well try them for breakfast before Sunday's Christmas Carnival.

Well as nobody has reviewed the Village Café I will. I went there for Sunday Brunch before the Farmers Market. First impressions are good. It is clean, light and airy with friendly staff. Personally I would prefer less prominent menus and more pictures on the walls. The one benefit was I could leave my reading glasses (being of a certain age) in their case. I ordered the special breakfast and a mug of tea. It arrived quite quickly, well cooked and piping hot. Overall I give it 4/5. The reason for not giving it 5 out of 5 was the sausage. It tasted like one out of an economy range. I would urge them to try ones with a more distinct flavour such as Lincolnshire or Cumberland, even if they have to charge a little more. Value for money 5/5!
