If you are finding it difficult to find space for all of your Christmas presents now is the perfect time to have a clear out; out with the old and in with the new!  Harpenden is full of charity shops, all of which raise vital funds for worthwhile causes and all of which are always grateful for donations.

One such local charity is the Community Meeting Point (CMP); a new CMP shop was opened in Harding Parade, Station Road, back in September.  As well as the charity shop there is an area where people facing mental health issues can undertake short courses, to help them build confidence; money raised at the store is used for training the volunteers.

The charity, which was  founded by Harpenden resident Jean Lale and her family, celebrated their 20th anniversary; the Bishop of St Albans Alan Smith, who is also a patron of CMP and the Mayor of Harpenden Councillor Mike Weaver, joined staff and volunteers for celebrations.

Even if you despair at the amount of charity shops which can be found in Harpenden, you cannot deny the good work which they do.  So make space for the new and give your unwanted items to charity; they really will make a difference to people's lives.
