School admissions is always a hot topic in Harpenden; but if you are not a parent of school age children you may not be aware of the proposed changes which the County Council are planning to implement for 2013-2014; the changes could impact the way your local schools are allocated and thus change your likelihood of obtaining a place in certain schools.

Herts County Council are currently carrying out consultations regarding changes to school admissions
Hertfordshire County Council is running a consultation on the proposed admissions arrangements for community and voluntary-controlled schools for the school year 2013-2014. It is important that we, the people of Harpenden, are involved in these consultations and make sure that our voices are heard.
A summary of the proposed changes is listed below (the full documentation is available online.)
The deadline for responses, which can also be made online, is 29th February 2012.
Hertfordshire's proposals include:
• An increase in school preferences from three to four
• Amending the secondary priority area rules and primary "nearest" school definition
• Amending the treatment of twins/multiple births and the 'In Year' admissions process
The consultation seeks feedback on:
• The nursery admissions oversubscription criteria
• The admissions arrangements for all community and voluntary-controlled schools
• Schemes of co-ordination
• Sixth Form admission arrangements
• Published Admission Numbers
• A rule to prioritise children of school staff
The online survey doesn't take long to complete; please take a few minutes to read the documentations and give your responses!
